Dry Tooling at Masson Lees, Matlock, The Peak District, UK
Jędrzej Jabłoński and Agnieszka Kostrzewa of Poland have recently been touring UK drytooling venues, checking out what's on offer at both The Works and White Goods. Simon Ward, local dry tooling climber and myself caught up the couple down at Masson Lees near Matlock to see how they were getting on.
Inspired by a flying visit to the UK six weeks ago, when they managed to get a quick trip to The Works in, Jędrzej and Agnieszka returned to the UK two weeks ago. A month after his first attempt, Jędrzej managed to gain a clean second attempt on the Powerdab D13 route, his first ever D13. Check out this video to see his ascent of Powerdab: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nk11x9G5D6M.
At Masson Lees, Jędrzej had more hard routes in mind. The strong Polish climber managed a flash ascent of Sub Rosa D10, but he narrowly missed onsighting Substantial Losses D10, getting it on the second attempt. The next day, he returned to bag Substantial Gains D11, a much longer and tougher route. Meanwhile, Agnieszka had aims of gaining her first D10 with Sub Rosa; unfortunately, despite coming close, she didn't manage to get the tick on this visit.
