Macclesfield Potato Riot 2017
What a total riot!
It was brilliant to see the fun reenactment of the 1812 Macclesfield Potato Riot so well attended with reports of 1,500 people watching and taking part. The actors did amazing job of bringing the story to life with some set pieces but with plenty of riotous anarchy thrown in. There were plots involving the Luddite uprising, Jail breaks, time travelling story-tellers, stalls looted and trashed, the masses standing up to the evil toffs, standoffs between the mob and the militia and even the surprise appearance of the cavalry! A dark and long forgotten part of the town's history was brought to life in a vivid and fun way.
The historical account of the riot can be found here...
