Jenni Pinches – Olympic Gymnast
Jenni, is a gymnast whose performance helped the Team GB women's artistic gymnastic team achieve their best ever performance in the finals at the London 2012 Olympics. She grew up locally and did her schooling at Kings School, Macclesfield and is now about to join the renowned Bruins Gymnastic squad at the University of California, Los Angeles.
She took up gymnastics at the age of 6 and showed amazing commitment and total dedication to her sport in order to achieve her dream of becoming an Olympian and being part of the team that achieved the best result ever for Britain. It was a real honour to try and capture some of her beauty and her outstanding abilities recently. Rather than work in a boring studio, we took these shots near to where she grew up, in stunning locations in the Peak District, Windgather Rocks and in the Goyt Valley.
The dramatic lighting was achieved using my portable studio lighting (Elinchrom Ranger Quadra into a Deep Octa softbox)

Leo is a fitness instructor and personal trainer based in Macclesfield with an infectious passion for fitness and nutrition. He is a qualified youth fitness instructor working with schools, colleges and community groups. Through his company Flowskate http://flowskate.co.uk/) he offers personal and group training for skate (ICP Level 2 in aggressive, recreational and slalom) as well as training in many other sports.
Shown here are some of his amazing abilities on an Indo balance board, on which he is also a qualified instructor for. Just standing up normally on this requires balance, concentration and effort but is great for improving core stability which is so important in may sports. To do these moves whilst balancing on the edge of a cliff, with someone stood on your shoulders or on slack lines requires nothing short of Jedi skills!
Here's a previously unseen shot from a fantastic photo shoot I did with the lovely Jenni Pinches, one of our Team GB London 2012 Olympic gymnasts, on location at Windgather Rocks. Jenni was in the Team GB women's artistic gymnastics team that reached the final and who all gave an inspirational performance.
After the Olympics, Jenni, in order to go back to finish her A-Levels and travel, retired from competing for Team GB. This Summer she was even invited to Buckingham Palace.
She is now excited to be embarking on a new journey in both her continuing studies AND a return to competitive gymnastics. She is joining the UCLA Bruins Gymnastic team at the University of California, Los Angeles, which is one of the most respected teams in the NCAA intercollegiate sports championships with great facilities, coaching and support for their athletes.
We all wish a huge "Good Luck" to Jenni as she continues to fly the flag and D.F.T.B.A!further pictures from the photo shoot can be found at http://www.travellingsimon.com/Portfolio/Barnaby-2013-Exhibition/Metamorphosis-of-the-Body
